Histoire de bien commencer l’année, le bureau a le plaisir de vous annoncer qu’il est le lauréat, en association avec Lazard Group, du concours pour la nouvelle construction de l’îlot 5D – Le Berlingot dans le cadre de l’aménagement du quartier Nouveau Malakoff – Euronantes Gare à Nantes. La voie ferrée est l’élément contextuel majeur de l’identité et de la spécificité de ce site. Elle est à la fois une opportunité visuelle qui permet par le recul qu’elle offre, une très bonne mise en valeur de cette nouvelle portion de ville, mais elle est également une nui­sance importante du point de vue des usages. Ainsi plutôt que de rester sur la volumétrie fragmentée proposée par le PLU, le projet propose la création d’une continuité bâtie composée d’une série de terrasses qui dégringolent en douceur du haut des 35m jusqu’au sol. Cette stratégie volumétrique résout deux enjeux majeurs, d’une part la constitution d’une façade ur­baine claire et imposante et d’autre part la création d’un véritable enclos protecteur propice au développement d’activités paisibles en cœur d’îlots.

The Meret Oppenheim Award awards annually known artists and architects as well as mediators of art and architecture in Switzerland that are older than 40 years. The award recognizes in one hand the realization of a work of importance and on the other hand, the adequation between the theorical and creative production of the artist and the artistic  or architectural trend of today. This year, this prestigious award is attributed to architects Patrick Devanthéry and Inès Lamunière.

10.09.2011 Un nouveau regard - la Tour RTS à Genève

Construire la Suisse - 13 ouvrages d'architecture et d'ingénierie hors du commun racontent l'avant-garde de la construction en Suisse, dont la rénovation de la Tour de la Télévision Suisse Romande. Comment redonner à la tour une allure résolument moderne et ouverte vers son public ? Le bâtiment vieillissant et bourré d'amiante nécessitait d'être entièrement assaini puis repensé, en l'adaptant aux nouveaux besoins des collaborateurs. Au final, une tour dont le sommet en porte-à-faux pointe son regard vers la Suisse Romande. Regardez le film !

InDetails gives the architects Patrick Devanthéry and Inès Lamunière the opportunity to present three projects whose common denominator is the dense and detailed relationship established at all stages between the practice and their clients. The design and construction of the operations center of PMI International in Lausanne (2006 and 2010), of the School of Life Sciences at EPFL in Lausanne (2009) and of the Swiss TV Tower in Geneva (2010) question architecture at every scale. Their large dimensions assimilate them to urban fragments and their materiality conveys an object like value controlled through every detail. Every company wishes to communicate a strong image that summarizes their philosophy, distinguishes them in the public eye and gives their collaborators a sense of identity. This “image” is conveyed through functional processes, public communication and interaction as well as by the way spaces for the company are conceived. From plan to section, from massing to detail, dl-a investigate the links between architect and client in the definition and transcription of space-making for working communities as diverse as the collaborators of the headquarters of a large multinational company, genetic engineering and life science researchers at one of the most prestigious universities in the world and the journalists and administrators of a large press and television group. Large scale photographs that convey a feeling of spaces and materials complete more mute iconographies as well as three introductory essays by Joseph Abram, Jean-François Caille and Emmanuel Caille.

03.11.2009 Materiality and construction - FIVE POSITIONS IN CONTEMPORARY SWISS ARCHITECTURE

Conference held at Harvard GSD, 14.11.2009 - Today with the dissolution of national boarders and the emergence of a global market for architectural design, we would like to re-address the ideological framework of the "National," challenging what terms such as "Swiss" or "American" mean with respect to architecture and the built work. How are these preconceived notions of National differences related to architectural thinking? - From our observations there are alternative ways to pose an architectural "question" or "theme" that precede the actual design work and building production, something like an idea of architectural action allowing the possibility of identifying different "theories of practice". In order to challenge this working hypothesis on various "theories of practice" and their relation to the contested terrain of the "National" we bring together practitioners and educators from Switzerland and the US to open a dialogue on parallels and differences of the production, reflection and education of architecture. “Thick Space” will be the subject of discussion for Inès Lamunière.

08.07.2009 The EPFL School of Life Sciences new building Inauguration

The future of biomedical research resides at the crossroads between its traditional disciplines, biology and medicine, and the sciences of informatics, mathematics, physics, and chemistry, and the technologies of engineering. Driven by this vision, the EPFL launched its School of Life Sciences in 2002. A few group leaders were soon recruited, and by the following fall a first flock of students joined the newly created bachelor program in Life Sciences & Technology. Seven years after its creation and four intense years of construction site, the faculty is finally going to introduce its new research building, on September 2nd of this year.   +++

03.07.2009 Natural and Urban, Green and Grey

This book combines the research and work of two directed studios, one at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, the other at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. Led by the Swiss architect Ines Lamuniere, both studios explored the relationships between the natural and built environments by developing designs for large-scale buildings in Manhattan. The publication contains essays by the authors and prominent architects, including Adam Yarinsky, Nina Rappaport, Leslie Gill, and Billie Tsien. Eight design proposals by students from Lausanne and Cambridge are presented to showcase a selection of the research work on the city of New York.   +++

Der Begriff ›Entwerfen‹ ist ursprünglich als Fachwort der Bildweberei entstanden, bei der das Weberschiffchen hin und her in die aufgezogene Gewebekette geworfen wird. Was heisst aber ›Entwerfen‹ für einen Architekten? Was wird hin und her geworfen? Was soll entstehen? Wie? Sicher, bequem, funktional, schön, erkennbar, aufregend, dynamisch, fest, miteinander geteilt, persönlich, sinnlich, konzeptuell, neu, ...Welche Aktionen werden eingesetzt, um solche Qualitäten zu erreichen? Für wen? Ist das Entwerfen einer Architektur als eine kontrollierte und kohärente Methode zu sehen, oder ist es eher eine spezifische und punktuelle Reaktion auf eine bestimmte Aufgabe? Kann man schlussendlich das ›Entwerfen‹ in sich analysieren, oder muss man immer von den Entwürfen sprechen? Inwiefern sind aber Entwürfe für unterschiedliche Orte vergleichbar? Drei Architektinnen und Architekten werden ihr Entwerfen und ihre Entwürfe präsentieren und reflektieren. Moderiert wird Zykus 5 von Alberto Alessi, Architekt und Kritiker, Zürich.   +++

13.01.2009 Wakker Price 2009 : Yverdon-les-Bains (VD)

The Swiss Heritage Society SHS awarded the Wakker Price 2009 to the city of Yverdon (Canton Vaud, Switzerland) for its exemplary design in terms of urban planning, public space planning and realised buildings of high quality. In this context the Psychiatric Clinic finished by dl-a in 2003 contributed substantially to the international acceptance in the circle of experts.   +++
